My very first Illustration! This was a class assignment: Create a spot illustration for a book.

During my Egyptian Art class, I had the opportunity to put my 3D modeling skills to work. The assignment was to recreate an ancient egyptian art piece in the medium of our choosing. This is my very first attempt at doing a face. Enjoy!

Here’s a sketch that I doodled for a character in my “Fear” illustration.

The comic book film genre has come a long way. With X-Men marking ground and establishing itself as not just a good comic book film, but as a great film in general, the door for such films has since swung wide open. We’ve since been given Spider-Man and its subsequent sequel. And now, it appears that the latest installment to the Iron Man franchise will be adding itself to the genre’s success stories.

One of the tricky things to painting digitally is trying to create that “illusion of depth”; not “visual depth”, but that physical depth you get with physical media—how paint layered upon paint has a physicality to it, a “texture” or “height” vs. digital painting where, no matter how many layers upon layers of pixels you have, it will always appear flat. Many people may not know what the difference is between a digital painting and a traditional one, but they can “see” or sense the difference. Well, this technique demonstrates how you can achieve an “illusion of depth”, making it more akin to physical media.
